The Influence of Ani DiFranco, and Our Deep Gratitude

Some artists don’t just write songs, they build movements. They shape lives, thoughts and feeling inside.

Ani DiFranco is one of those rare voices. For decades she’s been giving so many of us independence and empowerment in our lives, it’s honestly crazy to think about those numbers( I’m a statistician type of guy)
I don’t know about you, but when I hear the lyrics “You’ve got your whole life to do something, and that’s not very long”, it really affirms that who I am and what I do matters. I better not squander any opportunities.

For us, the past two years of designing posters for Ani DiFranco has been nothing short of AMAZING!! Working with Ani and her team…. Yes Bubba, we love you

means carving a little bit of her spirit into every piece. Each poster is an attempt to honor the voice that has inspired so many for so long.
There is something profound about listening to Ani sing “Buildings and bridges are made to bend in the wind” while we’re in the studio carving block after block. That line is the patience I find in my own creative process. The challenges, the imperfections, they’re not failures, they’re proof of strength. Ani’s music continues to teach me that.

This weekend, while we sat in the open theater, just four of us listening to the soundcheck, I kept thinking about how thankful I was for this opportunity. This is all part of a bigger picture I have envisioned not only for Gilfalo Art Design but for Dani and I.
Here’s a deep personal moment…..Soundcheck ends and Ani comes down. It’s always so nice when she spends time with us. We talked about how we are connected well past what our mind perceives to be reality. It was a setting that very few people get to have, and I am grateful. She was kind enough, well, because she embodies the word kind, to write a little something special to Dani and I on our poster. We shared laughter, smiles and something meaningful that I will take and keep inside of me. I can try to explain these connections with the words I write but it’s deeper than that. It’s truly an experience beyond experiences.

I feel humbled to be a small part of this tapestry. Every poster we create, is a thank-you note carved in linoleum, inked and run through the Buddy the press with gratitude. It’s our way of saying: thank you for your words, your fire, your endless courage. Thank you for giving us all permission to be bold, vulnerable, and unafraid.

To Ani and the Righteous Babe team: your kindness, trust, and belief in our work means more than we can ever fully express. You’ve given us not just projects, but purpose.

Cheers to Ani DiFranco….. the voice of independence, the poet of resilience, the righteous babe who keeps inspiring us all.
